Navigating the NRCS Letter of Authority (LOA) application process can be complex and time-consuming. Drawing on years of experience securing LOAs for clients, we streamline the process to obtain your LOAs efficiently and without hassle.
An LOA is an official certificate issued by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) confirming that a product complies with South African National Standards (SANS). Without a valid LOA, products cannot legally enter the South African market or be sold to consumers.

A wide range of products require NRCS Letters of Authority before they can be legally imported or sold in South Africa. The main product categories subject to these requirements include:
Application process depend on the product and NRCS Division. Each application requires specific product test reports and documentation that must meet precise NRCS standards—we ensure your application is complete and compliant from the start.
LOA application requirements vary by product. While several documents are needed, the product test report is the most critical. Test reports must be correct, valid and meet specific NRCS criteria.
NRCS processing takes up to 120 days, but this timeline fluctuates. In practice, it takes an average of 60-90 days, including time to resolve queries. Early application prevents costly import delays.
Importing goods subject to NRCS regulation without a valid LOA is costly and creates significant delays. Customs or the NRCS will immediately detain non-compliant goods.
The goods must be stored in either a State Warehouse or the Importer’s Warehouse, with all storage costs borne by the importer.
Detained goods may be released under embargo if valid grounds exist. This requires obtaining a Release Order Under Embargo from the NRCS.
